David Stark - Author

David Stark was born in 1952. He was brought up and educated mainly in Germany.  His parents were great storytellers and as he grew up, moved back to England, married and had children of his own, he realised he also had a flair for telling and inventing stories.

David, now in his seventies, grandfather to ten children, is still the storyteller in the family.  His now older children and grandchildren asked him for many years to write some of these stories down so other children may enjoy them too.  Over recent years he produced booklets of new and past rhymes and tales.

Rotten Rodney

Rotten Rodney is his first children’s book and hoping to be the first part of a trilogy.  It contains a hero, a villain, some funny bits, some sad – and some exciting bits, all to keep the younger reader engaged

The first book is all about how Rotten Rodney got started and some of his adventures.  The character, whilst acting like a pirate, shows him to be a kind hearted and caring rogue trying to avoid having to do the nasty things that pirate’s were known to do.

Future stories plan to grow his character as the readers grow older so the books should become more adult and the stories more comparable to the reader’s own knowledge and experience.

THE MOUSE AND THE ELEPHANT

The Mouse and the Elephant would you believe were very best of friends

The Elephant lived in the zoo….. and she lived in his pen.

One day the Elephant said “my friend……. I’m tired and I need a rest”

“Ok”, I hear this time of year that France may well be best “!

“Coooool” said the Elephant ‘lets leave at dawn and providing the weather is fair

I think I have a really good idea, just how to get us there”

So off at dawn they left the zoo and set off to a beach near Dover

When they got there……. the Mouse in despair……… said ‘come on be a good Feller

Exactly how do we get to France ?”

To which the Elephant with a triumphant smile produced an upturned umbrella.

‘Oh no” she said “this will be tense I’m very small but you’re so immense”.

“Oh tut tut” he said “it will be OK, where is your sense of fun?

Hop in with me, with the wind as it is, we will be there just after one!”

Well you can guess what happened half way across, the umbrella was about to sink

“Oh no’ said the Mouse sitting on the edge of a panel

“I think I’m going to drown in the middle of the Channel”

“Nonsense !” said her friend in calm soothing voice

“you know I swim really well….  Hop on my head, I wont let you drown

I’ll paddle us there……. we’ll still ‘hit the town’ “

And they got there just after two.

Well they had a fab week – with plenty of sun, they also played in the sand

And Elephant buried his friend the Mouse with one fair swipe of his hat.

“Let me have a go” she said with a smile “I think not” answered her friend……

“it will take you a year just to get to my ear and we haven’t got time for that !!”

At last one day the Mouse looked up and said “its time to go”

“Just one more night” the Elephant said “ lets have some fun and be merry’

“Ok” said the Mouse “but let just agree we go home on the ferry !”

So that’s what they did they ‘hit the town’ with plenty of jiggery pockery

I think if my ears don’t fail me….. I heard them do Karaoke !

But in the morning they stood on the deck, of a ferry out of Ostend

This handsome young Elephant having had such fun with his closest and bestest friend

And back at the Zoo the Elephant told, all his mates about their fun

The Mouse curled up in her pen and slept and dreamt of week that had gone

And when she woke she gave Ellie a poke and said “we did have a blast”

Her friend broke into a smile, which went from ear to ear

He gently wrapped his trunk around her and said “ lets go again next year’’
